Cyclists want apology from USOC over mask flap

The four American cyclists who arrived for last month’s Beijing Games wearing black masks and were subsequently ordered to apologize for offending the host nation are seeking an apology from the U.S. Olympic Committee.,

In a letter sent to the leadership group of the Athletes Advisory Council, an attorney for the four cyclists—Michael Friedman, Sarah Hammer, Bobby Lea and Jennie Reed—not only asked the USOC to apologize, but said the flap was “emotionally devastating” and adversely affected their performances at the Beijing Games, where none of them medaled and only Hammer managed a top-five finish.

As some of you may remember, I ran the Boulder Backroads ½ Marathon in September of 2004 (about 4 years ago) in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Here is a link to my old page, where you can read about my last run! This time I will be running farther and raising more money!

Without a doubt, this will be the biggest challenge of my life! On January 11, 2009, I will be running/walking a marathon in Orlando, FL at Disney World! That’s 26.2 miles, and yes all at once. Luckily, I am not doing this on my own. I have joined the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training program. Through this program, I have great coaches, mentors and teammates whose support will help me cross the finish line. Completing a Marathon, the Disney specifically, has been a goal of mine for a long time… I was supposed to have completed this by the time I turned 30, but that didn’t happen, since I just turned 30 a month ago. I decided it still counted if I did it when I WAS 30! So, I’ll need all the support I can get to accomplish this!

2 time Giro D’Italia finisher and Jittery Joes professional Trent Wilson confirms his appearance for September 20th Festival of Speed at Dick Lane Velodrome

East Point, GA (August 25th 2008) – 8 year professional and 3rd year rider with Athens, GA based Jittery Joes Professional Cycling Team, Trent Wilson has confirmed his start for Septembers Festival of Speed to be held at the Dick Lane Velodrome in East Point, GA. Said Wilson of the confirmation: “It’ll be a great chance to get back on the track, its been a while. I love racing the track so hopefully I can get out there and have some fun and come away with a win or 2 while I’m at it”. He will join teammate Tim Henry of Atlanta, GA to take on the rest of the professional field.

Race Director Jeff Hopkins also confirmed the addition of the Women’s Keirin to the schedule of events for the evening. “Our women’s racing at the velodrome is really competitive, so it’ll be good opportunity for the them to hone their skills at such a fast paced and exciting event” said Hopkins. Also appearing during the evening will be the crowd favorite Bicycle Little League riders, as well as amateur racing. RED ROBIN MADISON CUP XXXII featuring the AIR PRODUCTS FINALS RACE REPORT

(Lehigh Valley, PA) ---For the thirty second year in a row, the Valley Preferred Cycling Center hosted the prestigious Red Robin Madison Cup. The night was packed with great racing by the world’s best competitors and also featured riders from the community competing in the Air Products Finals, the culmination of the best developmental cycling program in the nation.

The evening started off with a 60 lap Madison where Olympians and world champions such as Colby Pearce and Hayden Godfrey went head to head in this grueling 20km race. Throughout three sprints in the event it was Rodney Santiago and Geraldo Fernandez who ended up taking the race just behind Pearce and Dan Holloway. The teams took to the track once more before the 100 lap L’Americaine Finale which consisted of 5 sprints. The field stayed strong and it was U.S. Olympian Colby Pearce and his teammate Dan Holloway riding for the Chipotle Slipstream team who fought hard and took the win, earning the Bob Rodale Madison Cup.

Project Tiemeyer - Part 3 - The Informative Wait

As with anything in my life, patience is not my strong suit. I want my new frame and I want it now! While the process has not been terribly long, I am sure that David Tiemeyer is probably tired of giving me status updates. Blaine (August 14, 2008) – The National Sports Center Velodrome announced today that it will host the 2nd Annual Peace Coffee 2-Day Grind – showcasing team cycling from the Golden Age of Cycling.

Local Sprinter Wins First Annual Midwest Sprint Challenge

Taylor Olson Captures Four Men’s Elite Track Cycling Events Saturday Blaine (August 11, 2008) – Minnesotan Taylor Olson dominated the Men’s Elite Events during the inaugural Midwest Sprint Challenge at the National Sports Center Velodrome. Olson won 4 of 5 medal races this weekend on his way to the overall victory. “Winning the Match Sprints against sprinters from around the country was the highlight of my event,” Olson said. “Doing well against a strong field gives me confidence going into Elite Nationals next month in Los Angeles.” In addition to winning 4 of five events, Olson posted a Flying 200 meter sprint time of 11.21, just 0.6 seconds off the track record set by Italian Olympian Roberto Chiappa during the MN Fixed Gear Classic in June. “Chiappa inspired me this summer,” noted Olson.
